A multi-criteria evaluation system for arable land resource assessment
2020
This study proposed a multi-criteria evaluation system for arable land resources by combining the soil integrated fertility index (IFI) with a soil cleanliness index (based on heavy metals and metalloid content). A total of 16 typical arable land units in Chongming District, China, were evaluated using the proposed evaluation system based on 104 collected soil samples in 16 towns. The comprehensive soil evaluation scores of arable lands in 16 towns were in the range of 90.7 to 99.2 with a mean of 96.2, indicating that the arable land in all 16 towns was at the level of excellent (≥ 90.0). Lower cleanliness indices had a significant impact on the final evaluation score. In comparison with si…
Ex ante evaluation of cropping systems for weed-mediated pests and environmental benefits with simulation–based indicators
2016
SPEEAGESTADAGROSUP; International audience; Integrated crop protection tolerates residual weed floras if they are not harmful for crop production. These weeds can host harmful crop pests, among which parasitic plants such as broomrape (Phelipanche ramosa). They can also contribute to reduce soil erosion as well as nitrate and pesticide leaching. To evaluate these weed impacts of management practices ex ante, we developed indicators for the weed dynamics model FLORSYS (Colbach et al., 2014) and then used the model to predict weed-mediated broomrape risk and environmental benefits in cropping systems from five French regions. Materials and Methods FLORSYS is a virtual field on which cropping …
The Complexity of Value and the Evaluation of Complexity: Social Use Value and Multi-criteria Analysis
2018
The “challenge of complexity” is one of the many points of convergence between the Encyclical Laudato si’ and the evolution of post-modern scientific thought. This study aims to analyze how complexity represents the essential element of the profound renewal in the scientific paradigm of the discipline of evaluation, particularly in regard to the theory of value, the categories of value, and the instruments of multi-criteria evaluation. Some contemporary theories of value propose, in fact, a complex source of value, such as surpluses of energy and of information (Ecological Economics) or as the creative and synergistic combination of three surpluses, namely energetic and non-entropic, geneal…
